Produced by the Bocas Lit Fest and sponsored by The Scotiabank Foundation, the Write Away! YA Literature Project was designed to keep students and teachers motivated and engaged in creative writing and reading when schools went online in 2020. The project included five virtual workshops that break down the essentials of creative writing and introduce youth to award-winning Caribbean YA Literature, led by the author Lisa Allen-Agostini. The virtual workshops cover everything from character building to planning your plot and scene-setting, using engaging, short videos with illustrations from Caribbean Literature and popular YA fiction.
In this video, Lisa Allen-Agostini looks at one of the main elements of fiction writing: setting the scene, why it matters and how you build it.
